TUXEDO Unveils World’s First Linux-Based Laptop To Feature AMD Ryzen 8040 APUs & RDNA 3 dGPU

TUXEDO Computers, a German-based firm, has unveiled the world's first laptop featuring AMD's Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" APUs & Linux OS loaded default.
It's not every day that we see Linux-based laptops surface since the platform is relatively more prevalent among handheld users, particularly Steam Deck. However, the German company TUXEDO Computers has unveiled instead the world's first Linux laptop, featuring AMD's latest Ryzen 8040 APUs and an RDNA 3 dedicated mobile GPU, hence showing an exciting choice of components. To top it all off, the laptop features Linux OS and is installed Linux by default, making it an appealing option when considering its distinctive element.
TUXEDO's latest Sirius 16 Gen 2 gaming laptop is called the company's "binary star," and it's indeed true, given that the Sirius 16 shines brightly in its segment. The laptop's AMD's Ryzen 7 8845HS processor is onboard, with an 8C/16T configuration, a boost clock of up to 5.1 GHz, and a 45W TDP. Instead, the processor showed impressive performance, giving Intel's Core i9-13900H head-to-head competition. Still, regarding generational improvements, the Ryzen 7 8845HS looks like a "replica" of its Phoenix counterpart, the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS.
Moving on to the onboard GPU, the Sirius 16 Gen 2 comes with its own dedicated mobile GPU, none other than AMD's Radeon RX 7600M XT, which is based on the Navi 33 "RDNA 3" graphics core and features a total of 32 compute units, 2048 shader units, 32 MB of Infinity cache, 8 GB GDDR6 memory running across a 128-bit wide bus interface and a maximum clock speed of 2615 MHz. In terms of performance, the AMF Radeon RX 7600M XT comes near to NVIDIA's RTX 4060 mobile variant.
For other specifications, the laptop comes with a 16.1-inch 2K 165 Hz display, a large 80 Wh battery, up to a whopping 96 GB DDR5-5200 memory, and 8 TB PCIe 4.0 storage, making it a great option for those looking to max out on a Linux laptop. The Sirius 16 Gen 2 has plenty of network and communication options, which you can see on the firm's website here.
The choice of Linux OS is surprising here, but it isn't installed natively; instead, the manufacturer has devised its solution called the TUXEDO OS, similar to what we see in Apple's MacBook. It provides a balanced ecosystem, ranging from optimal hardware and software support to every necessary feature in conventional operating systems. Although TUXEDO OS hasn't gained much popularity, the platform looks like a great option at first glance, and many reviewers see it as a viable alternative to mainstream platforms.
TUXEDO's Sirius 16 Gen 2 is a marvel when you look at its specifications and features. In terms of pricing, the Sirius 16 Gen 2 starts at €1,666 and can reach €3,000 if you opt to max out all of the options.
