NVIDIA To Discontinue GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs Soon As Production Dries Out, Still The Most Popular GPU On Steam

NVIDIA's highly popular GeForce RTX 3060 GPU is expected to be discontinued soon as inventory levels dry out and move toward RTX 4060 series.

NVIDIA's most popular GPU and one of the best graphics cards in the Ampere series is about to see a halt in production. As per the reports published on Board Channels, NVIDIA has announced the discontinuation of the production of the RTX 3060 GPU to its partners. The report adds that only one batch of GPU supply is left for order, which means AIBs have to place their last order if they want their hands on this budget GPU before saying goodbye to it.

Even though the report doesn't mention whether the 8 GB or the 12 GB edition of RTX 3060 will be discontinued but looks like both will come to an end since both editions use the same GA106 GPU die. NVIDIA has notified several AIBs to distribute the last batch of GPUs while other AIBs will receive this last batch in the next few months.

This doesn't mean that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU will suddenly disappear from the market in a matter of days but will rather stay in the market for a few more months from now. Since the RTX 3060 is still abundantly available in various retail stores, the last batch to be distributed in the coming months will probably have good availability after AIBs prepare their last stock of RTX 3060 GPUs.

At the moment, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 is not only the most-selling GPU in several retail outlets but is also the most popular on the latest Steam Hardware Survey of July. The GPU has seen a 0.22% increase in its popularity in the latest survey and the current percentage of users owning this GPU stands at 5.71%. This isn't the most accurate stat as a lot of users don't participate in the Steam Survey and some even don't use Steam at all. However, looking at the past few monthly surveys, it's clear that the 3060 has remained at the top in the chart followed by other budget GPUs like GTX 1650 and RTX 3060 Ti.

Even at Amazon, the current best-selling graphics card is the MSI Gaming Geforce RTX 3060 12GB edition selling for $285. On Newegg, the best-selling GPU is the MSI Ventus Geforce RTX 3060 12GB OC edition. Both retail stores have a couple of more RTX 3060s in the top 50 best-selling GPUs, which means it's the sweet spot for millions of gamers around the globe, surpassing the current-gen RTX 4060 GPU in sales.
