MSI’s Updated Z790 MAX Motherboards With Wi-Fi 7 & 5 GbE Connectivity Pictured

The Z790 MAX motherboards were announced ahead of Computex but we got to get a close-up look at these four new motherboards. MSI has always made a mid-cycle refresh of its boards with the "MAX" series. This time, the motherboard vendor decided that it was time to slightly refine the design by adding new connectivity options which are also being introduced by other brands such as ASRock and MSI.

There are a total of four new Z790 MAX series motherboards from MSI. The top one includes the MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX and you might be wondering why didn't the GODLIKE get these features. The simple answer is that the GODLIKE already features 10 GbE LAN and a new variant with just a WiFi 7 upgrade isn't a reason enough to refresh this $1000 US+ motherboard. The rest of the Z790 boards that received this upgrade were already outfitted with WiFi capabilities so it makes sense to give the latest WIFI solutions on those.

The other models include the MSI MPG Z790 Carbon MAX WIFI, the MPG Z790 EDGE MAX WIFI, and the MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI. The EDGE MAX WIFI only gets Wi-Fi 7 and retains its 2.5 GbE LAN and the same goes for the Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI.

Now in terms of pricing, these boards will definitely cost a bit extra but the pricing will not be a huge increase since the rest of the design and specs are virtually the same. MSI already had a good enough motherboard ecosystem so they don't want to make lots of changes to them and decided to just go with the new networking (WIFI 7 and 5 GbE) options. Expect availability in the next couple of weeks.
