Minisforum’s V3, The World’s First AMD Ryzen 8040 “-Powered Tablet, To Be Available In Q1 2024

Minisforum has announced that its V3 3-In-1 tablet, powered by AMD's Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" will be available for pre-sale in Q1 2024.
We have seen AMD's Ryzen APUs powering a range of platforms ranging from laptops, notebooks, Chromebooks, Mini PCs, and handhelds. But in 2024, we can expect a far more diverse range with Minisforum entering the tablet segment. We have previously talked about the V3 3-in-1 tablet but now, the company has announced that it is expecting to begin pre-sales of the device in Q1 2024 & that's just around the time when AMD anticipates the shipping to commence on its new Ryzen APU lineup, the 8040 "Hawk Point" series.
Coming to the specifications of the Minisforum V3 3-in-1 tablet, the company is still not naming the specific APU that will be powering the device and simply refers to it as a "Ryzen 7 flagship chip". It was previously confirmed by Minisforum that the tablet will be the first to house the newest Ryzen 8040 chips which are part of the Hawk Point family and feature an upgraded XDNA "Ryzen AI" NPU.
The only AMD Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" APU that matches these specifications is the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U which offers 8 Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, 16 MB of L3 cache, 8 MB of L2 cache, a base clock of 3.3 GHz and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz. The chip comes with an integrated Radeon 780M iGPU with a total of 12 compute units clocked at 2700 MHz and as mentioned above, a slightly updated XDNA NPU which offers 16 TOPs of AI compute. The chip has a default TDP of 28W that could be adjusted between 15-30W.
Other specifications include support for up to 32 GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory, up to 2 TB of M.2 PCIe-based storage, 2 USB 4 ports, 1 USB Type-C VLink (DP-In) port, 1 SD card reader, WIFI 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support. The device comes with a 50.82 Wh battery and is charged through a 65W PD port (Type-C).
As for the display, the Minisforum V3 3-in-1 tablet is equipped with a 14" panel which has a 16:10 aspect ration and supports a resolution of 2560x1600 at 165Hz refresh rates. The screen produces up to 500 nits of brightness and supports touch capabilities with support for a stylus that is offered with the tablet. There are four speakers with stereo affect and the whole thing weighs 946 grams. It will come loaded with Windows 11 and support all the latest Security and AI features. Once again, there's no word on pricing yet but we expect it to be unveiled around February-March 2024 which is when the majority of the Hawk Point APU-powered devices are expected to launch in retail.
