Lenovo Yoga Pro Laptops With Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” Come Equipped With LPDDR5-7467 Memory, Up To 27% Uplift In Apps & 9% In Games

Lenovo has demonstrated its upcoming Yoga Pro laptops fitted with Intel's next-gen Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" CPUs & speedy LPDDR5 memory.
Lenovo recently talked about its AI PC platform which will comprise various laptops with the Yoga Pro series being one of them. These laptops are expected to debut next week at the Intel Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" launch event but the company is giving a small preview of what users should expect.
The laptop manufacturer explains that while many companies will be using LPDDR5-6400 memory with their Intel Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" products, they are leveraging even faster memory. This is seen with the integration of LPDDR5-7467 which is a 17% speedup and should result in a nice boost to overall performance.
Lenovo shows a generational graph that shows how laptop memory has evolved from DDR4-3200 to DDR5-5200 in 2023 and LPDDR5-7467 in 2024. The company doesn't mention which particular Intel Core Ultra SKU was used for this demonstration.
It is mentioned that several Kernel optimizations and PCB changes have to be made to incorporate the faster LPDDR5 memory solution. And it's not a simple XMP tweak but an actual 7467 DRAM that is integrated into the laptop itself. The faster LPDDR5 memory should prove to be great for Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs and the Arc graphics integrated within them as it provides extra bandwidth.
In the benchmarks shown by Lenovo, the company compares the performance of LPDDR5-6400 memory with LPDDR5-7467 across various workloads.
Breaking down each workload, you are looking at up to 11% performance uplift in AI, 27% uplift in office, 9% in 3DMark, and 9% improvement in gaming. The games tested were Shadow of The Tomb Raider & DOTA 2. The company didn't mention if APO was enabled.
One interesting thing to note here is that Lenovo also compares the performance with SAGV enabled and disabled on the Intel Meteor Lake configurations. SAGV is a dynamic tuning agent in the SOC that can adjust memory profiles based on workloads. It can lead to lower power consumption and save up battery time where a faster memory speed is not required.
Various memory profiles can be dynamically enabled based on the workload. When enabled, SAGV enabled 5600 MT/s mode with lower latencies versus the 7467 MT/s mode which is helpful for standard PC apps that require higher bandwidth and don't benefit from lower latencies like games. The memory can even scale down to 3200 MT/s for video playback and browsing, getting you more battery time.
SAGV Disabled in BIOS:
SAGV on Lenovo's Yoga Pro laptops equipped with Intel's Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" CPUs can be enabled or disabled through the BIOS. When disabled, the BIOS lets you manually set the LPDDR5 memory between 7467 MT/s (Gear 4) or 5600 MT/s (Gear 2) mode.
Besides all of the testing, Lenovo has also shared a first look at the internals of its Yoga Pro laptops with Intel Meteor Lake CPUs. The laptop features a dual-fan cooling solution with two large copper heat pipes that direct heat away from the Meteor Lake CPU. The LPDDR5 memory is also seated under a copper heatsink and is soldered to the PCB. The battery is a 5385 mAh design (84Wh) & this laptop should become available for retail in early 2024.
