The first benchmarks of Intel's upcoming Meteor Lake "Arc" integrated GPU have been leaked and it shows performance on par with Radeon 780M.

The Intel Meteor Lake CPUs are expected to feature a major upgrade in the graphics department with the integrated Arc GPU core based on the Alchemist architecture. This new architecture will offer a huge upgrade over the existing UHD & Iris graphics chips that have been used for several years now on desktops and laptops. Now, we have our first benchmarks of the Intel Meteor Lake iGPU and they look very good.

Starting with the details, the performance benchmark leak comes from an MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo laptop which was listed by online retailers yesterday. This specific laptop is configured with the Core Ultra 7 155H CPU which offers 16 cores, 22 threads, 24 MB of L3 cache, and a boost clock of up to 4.8 GHz.

This chip has a rated TDP of 28W so we can assume that the 45W Core Ultra 9 CPUs will offer slightly better performance on both CPU and GPU ends. The GPU department boasts the Intel Arc Graphics solution with 128 EUs or 1024 ALUs clocked at up to 2250 MHz. A few hours ago, Golden Pig Upgrade from Bilibili reported that the Meteor Lake-P lineup was canceled and MTL-H CPUs will replace them in 28W (Core Ultra 5 / Core Ultra 7) and 45W (Core Ultra 9) flavors.

In terms of performance, the Intel Arc Integrated GPU scored 27,249 points in the Geekbench 5 OpenCL tests which is around on par with an AMD Radeon 780M iGPU featured on the latest AMD Phoenix APUs. We have to note that the higher-end Ryzen 7940HS & 7840HS CPUs do get a higher OpenCL score with their Radeon 780M but they also run at higher TDPs while the comparable 15-30W Ryzen 7 7840U features a similar score for its Radeon 780M iGPU.

The benchmark comparisons can be seen below:

You will also note that the performance of the integrated GPU is about on par with the NVIDIA GTX 1060 discrete GPU and we can expect final optimized drivers to further boost it around the NVIDIA GTX 1650 and RX 480 range. Intel recently showed an XeSS performance demo with the integrated Arc GPU offering nearly 2x the performance in Dying Light 2 versus XeSS disabled. For gaming, the addition of XeSS will be a big deal which is not reflected in synthetic benchmarks such as OpenCL Geekbench.

This solution is said to be on par with low-end discrete GPUs and support the latest features such as Ray Tracing, DX12 Ultimate, and XeSS. iGPUs also mean that you won't have to worry about higher power draws that are associated with dGPUs so you can have longer battery times too. Expect more information on the Intel Meteor Lake integrated GPUs in the coming days as we get closer to the 14th December launch.
