Intel's upcoming Core i9-14900KS CPU has been listed at Microcenter for a slightly higher price than its predecessor, the 13900KS, at $749 US.

Update (3/12/2024): It looks like Central Computers is listing the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU for $699 US which is the same as the 13900KS (via Momomo_US).

The Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU is expected to debut in a few days, and while there were doubts about its potential pricing, MicroCenter has finally revealed what we could expect the SKU to list. The "Special Edition" variant has been a tradition of Intel since the 8th Gen Coffee Lake chips such as the Core i7-8086K. It is now the 14th Gen series that will also leverage the boost in performance this particular variant will come with.

In terms of pricing, MicroCenter has revealed that the Intel Core i9-14900KS could go for $749 US, which marks a $50 bump over the previous generation Core i9-13900KS, and we won't go into the debate now whether it is worth the price tag.

Regarding the specifications, the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU will be hardcore, coming with the fastest clock speeds ever seen on a chip when it launches.

It features the same config as the Core i9-14900K with 24 Cores (8 P-Cores + 16 E-Cores), 32 Threads, 36 MB L3, and 32 MB L2 cache. We can also note the per-core clock speeds for this chip, rated at 6.2 GHz across a max of 3 P-Cores and 5.9 GHz across all cores. The E-Cores are clocked at 4.6 GHz across 3 and 4.5 GHz across all cores. Intel has bumped the power consumption to 150W TDP to fill the generational gap with the maximum turbo core frequency hitting upwards of 400W as seen in leaked tests.

While we wait for official benchmark tests for now, it seems like Intel's Core i9-14900KS could be different from what was advertised since a recent "delidded" CPU testing revealed that it barely outperformed the existing Core i9-14900K. There were also abnormalities in the power consumption figures, so one should wait for reviews to drop before getting the flagship 14th Gen SKU.

Is the $749 price tag of the Core i9-14900K a justified one? Well, only time will tell, but let's wait for the CPU to release officially on March 14.
