AI is in for the rescue of the PC industry as research outlet, Canalys, reports that global shipments are expected to see a major boost in 2024.

Canalys believes that the upcoming quarters can be seen as a "delight" for the PC segment, mainly since it has been facing negative financial results for the past seven consecutive quarters. The market researcher predicts a 5% YoY growth in global shipments in the upcoming quarter, courtesy of the industry's dynamic shift towards "artificial intelligence" applications, along with traditional factors such as consumer upgrade cycles and the emergence of next-gen hardware products.

Moreover, Canalys has also predicted the year "2024" as progressive for the PC markets, since shipments are forecasted to grow by 8%, reaching up to 267 million units. Here is what Canalys analyst Ben Yeh has to say about the upcoming state of the PC industry:

The global PC market is on the road to recovery and will return to 2019 shipment levels by next year.

The impact of artificial intelligence on the PC industry will be profound, and leading companies from OEMs, processor manufacturers, and operating system providers will focus on delivering new artificial intelligence model targets in 2024. These initiatives will boost update demand, especially In the business field.

The total shipment share of PCs with AI capabilities is expected to reach approximately 19% by 2024. This covers all M-series Mac products as well as anticipated new products in the Windows ecosystem.

The prediction of artificial intelligence actually "rescuing" the PC industry was already made by Intel's CEO Pat Gelsinger who expressed that AI can transform the current state of markets, especially when it comes to actually integrating AI-focused features into mainstream applications. At the same conference, ASUS showcased an AI PC, where it asked questions to Intel's CEO about the company's vision. This hints that AI-based assistants might become a reality for the PC industry, and we might see the use of generative AI to a greater extent in PCs as well.

Apart from the use of AI at a consumer level, it has seen widespread adoption when it comes to aiding companies in the development of both hardware and software resources. AI has played a vital role in recent times, and companies like NVIDIA have already initiated the training of its "ChipNeMo" model, which focuses on aiding chip development alongside humans in aspects like critical questions, technical facts, or even problem-solving to an extent.

The emergence of new competitors in the PC industry, such as Qualcomm with their ARM-based CPUs, along with next-gen releases by Intel and AMD, the future looks exciting and progressive for the markets.
