Valve Reversing VAC Bans For Counter Strike 2 Players Who Used AMD Anti-Lag+, Also Adds Driver Check 1

Yesterday, AMD rolled out Anti-Lag+ support in Counter Strike 2 through its latest Radeon drivers but you should probably avoid enabling it as it can lead to a potential ban.

Update: AMD has removed the download link page for its Radeon Adrenalin Edition 23.10.1 driver.

According to developers of Counter Strike 2, the latest AMD GPU driver (23.10.1) added support for Anti-Lag+ which is a feature that helps reduce latency within games. However, the feature modifies the DLL functions within the game files which can lead to the Anti-VAC detection to trigger, leading to a permanent ban.

AMD's latest driver has made their "Anti-Lag/+" feature available for CS2, which is implemented by detouring engine dll functions. If you are an AMD customer and play CS2, DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+; any tampering with CS code will result in a VAC ban. Once AMD ships an update we can do the work of identifying affected users and reversing their ban. via AMD

That's why Valve is advising against enabling Anti-Lag+ within Counter Strike 2 & has asked gamers to wait for AMD to ship them an update so they can work on identifying the affected users, mostly owners of the Radeon RX 7000 series since Anti-Lag+ is only supported on the RDNA 3 architecture. All users who have been affected due to this issue will have the bans reversed though those who used other means to modify DLL files will remain banned.

The game also incorporates NVIDIA's Reflex Low Latency mode which doesn't have the same issues as AMD's Anti-Lag+. GeForce RTX 40 GPU owners can take full advantage of the low-latency mode & enable much smoother and responsive gameplay within the latest generation of CS. Considering the popularity of CS2, we can expect an update from AMD real soon since they don't want to keep Radeon users waiting from enjoying the game and using the latest features that their GPUs have to offer.

Speaking of Anti-Lag+, AMD released a new update for its Radeon drivers and the complete list of Anti-Lag+ games now includes:
