AMD’s Latest Ryzen 9 5900XT & Ryzen 7 5800XT AM4 Desktop CPUs Debut on 31st July

AMD's brand new Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5700XT CPUs for the AM4 socket and based on the Zen 3 architecture will debut later this month.

Well, for those of you who missed it, AMD's Zen 5 announcements weren't the only ones for the CPU segment; rather, the firm also unveiled two new AM4 SKUs, to contribute towards AM4's longevity.

These SKUs offer higher core counts and clock speeds than their predecessors and pack a punch. These CPUs are now expected to launch on the 31st of July which happens to be the same date on which the Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" Desktop CPUs but instead of aiming the AM5 platform, these chips will target AM4 platforms.

Retailers such as B&H Photo Video have already started listing the new AM4 CPUs, with pre-orders starting from 31st July. In terms of specifications, AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT comes packed with 16 cores and 32 threads based on the Zen 3-core architecture. In addition to the cores, you get an increased 72 MB cache and up to 4.8 GHz clock speeds in a TDP design of 105W. Along with that, the Ryzen 7 5800XT features 8 cores, 16 threads, 36 MB of cache, and a nominal clock speed bump of +100 MHz to 4.8 GHz. This chip is also rated at a 105W TDP.

As a bonus, you'll be getting the iconic Wraith Prism coolers with the new SKUs as well. With these variants, AMD certainly desires to stick with the AM4 platform a little longer which is great for PC builders who have an older AM4 motherboard laying around and want to try out something new, and considering the large consumer base on the older socket; it's a decent move by the firm.

In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT CPUs stack up nicely against Intel's 13th-Gen CPUs such as Core i7-13700K and the Core i5-13600KF (as per AMD's official benchmarks), hence they are a decent option for the budget segment, considering you won't switch to AM5.

Now that we have a launch date, details regarding the pricing of the new models aren't confirmed yet, but PC-Canada has these chips listed at $366.99 CAD ($266.47 US) and $514.99 CAD ($374.92 US), respectively. AMD's AM4 platform has been with us for a good 7 years and the company has already committed to a 2027+ longevity plan for its AM5 platform.
