AMD Radeon 700M "RDNA 3" iGPUs Recieve Fluid Motion Frames Support, Brings FPS-Boost To Laptop & Handheld Gamers 1

AMD has announced its latest update to the Fluid Motion Frames technology which improves stuttering and frame pacing encountered in games.

AMD has been updating its Fluid Motion Frames technology ever since it became available as a technical preview. Now, the company has released the 23.30.13.05 Driver package which further adds various improvements to the technology which are available across AMD's Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon RX 6000 GPUs.

The new changes include improvements to stutter and frame pacing when AMD Fluid Motion Frames technology is active. This was an issue particularly associated with several titles where AFMF was enabled but the gameplay experience wasn't as smooth despite the game seeing a massive boost to overall FPS. AMD also announced general improvements to the stability of the Fluid Motion Frames technology which essentially means that we are looking at a much better experience than what we got before.

December  7th - What’s New?

  • Updated to include all changes and improvements from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1.
  • Improvements to stutter and pacing when AFMF is active.
  • General improvements to the stability of AFMF.
  • It should be remembered that AMD Fluid Motion Frames technology is still in its technical preview stage so by the time it comes out of preview, we will get a much more refined version of what we had in the beginning. The technical preview driver also adds all of the improvements and changes that were included in the main driver brand released earlier this week as a part of the Adrenalin 23.12.1 package.

Like AMD's FSR 3, Fluid Motion Frames technology enables frame generation by adding the frame interpolation technique. This can offer more than double the FPS in games but the main difference is that while FSR 3 is embedded within the game engine, AFMF can be toggled on or off through the Radeon drivers.

FSR 3 does have the edge in terms of visual quality but the GPU owner's frame-gen only works with a select range of hardware so the rest of the gamers can utilize Fluid Motion Frames to benefit from frame generation. We have said on many occasions that AMFM makes a lot of sense for handheld consoles which have gained a lot of popularity over the last couple of years. Overall, it's good to see that improvements are being made to Fluid Motion Frames technology and we can't wait to see more updates in the future.
