AMD B650 Motherboards Most Popular Option Amongst AM5 “Ryzen” PC Builders

New market statistics show that AMD's B650 motherboards are rising in popularity amongst AM5 "Ryzen" PC builders as the red team continues its strong DIY growth.
Korean research outlet, Danawa, has shared motherboard statistics for the AMD Ryzen platform from December 2022 to October 2023, giving us an idea of what are the most popular consumer choices for Ryzen PCs. The statistics cover several popular AMD chipsets such as B650, B550, A520, A320, and others (X670, X620, X570, etc).
So starting in the December 2022 time frame, it seems like AMD's B550 chipset was the most dominant one amongst consumers since Ryzen 5000 CPUs were available with great discounts. Additionally, AMD also introduced low-cost Ryzen 5000/4000 options for AM4 users which led to increase in sales for the B550 motherboards.
So in early 2023, the AMD B550 motherboards were the leading choice for buyers, and we can't argue with this fact considering that not only did these motherboards come at affordable prices but the platform cost itself was also very appealing to the budget masses.
With the debut of AMD's Ryzen 7000 series on the new AM5 platform back in September 2022, consumers were initially reluctant to upgrade to the new platform due to higher prices that were associated with upgrading from older motherboards to a new one and support limited to DDR5 memory which was expensive at that time.
However, as AMD expanded its portfolio of AM5-based processors, especially with the introduction of models equipped with 3D-V Cache such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and even Non-3D models such as the Ryzen 5 7500F, both of which are among the best-selling chips at several global retailers, the company saw a shift in trends, and people started switching to the newer models, mainly due to waves of "price corrections", followed by a drop in price of DDR5 memory. In the midst of it, AMD's B650 motherboards saw huge traction in sales, making it the current best choice for consumers.
The B650 platform is the best option if someone is looking to switch to AM5, since it brings support for PCIe Gen 5 graphics cards as well, allowing users to switch to premium options within the GPU industry. Moreover, the motherboard also comes with at least one Gen 5 NVME slot, which updates consumers to the modern transfer type, making it the best option for those who are looking for the best of both worlds. Such reasons led to the B650 socket type skyrocketing sales, and it overthrew B550 motherboards, going into August 2023.
AMD's B650 (AM5) motherboards currently amount to 34.43% market share in South Korean sales followed by A520 (AM4) at 23.26%, B550 (AM4) at 18.3% and others are 17.67%. Although the price is still high compared to B550 AM4 motherboards, the B650 AM5 motherboards offer several great reasons such as the ones we mentioned above that have made users pay in the extra sum. Similar statistics are observed by TechEpiphany in their latest compilation of sales figures from Germany's largest retailer, MindFactory which can be seen below:

Moreover, the market research has also shown us which manufacturer has attracted the most attention in the B650 segment, and it looks like Gigabyte currently dominates with a market share of 50.28% while the rest of the vendors (MSI, ASUS, ASRock) are at sub-20% levels.
Lastly, it looks like AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU is still the hottest chip on the block with its insane gaming performance, unprecedented levels of efficiency, and outstanding value making it lead the "Best Selling" charts at both Amazon and Newegg. There's no denying that AMD has really pushed Intel back in the DIY segment but we hope for more competition in the budget (sub-$200 US) price segment where Intel still has strong offerings. AMD is also planning multiple AM4 CPUs and a new APU family for AM5 which is expected in February 2023 so stay tuned as we get more info on them.
