AMD's Anti-Lag+ technology is going to make a return soon in an even better state as confirmed by Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming at AMD.

AMD's Anti-Lag+ technology was supposed to be the red team's answer to NVIDIA's Reflex, both of which aim to reduce input lag and enhance system latency. These technologies are essential when running games with frame generation technologies such as AMD FSR 3 and NVIDIA DLSS 3. AMD's solution was supposed to be a step up since it was not only enabled within supported games but it could also be enabled through drivers with a simple toggle as a part of AMD's HYPR-RX suite. In our early tests, we found Anti-Lag+ to work great with the launch of FSR 3 titles such as Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum.

However, this driver toggle quickly fired back at AMD since it led to players getting banned from several online games including Call of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike 2, Overwatch 2, etc. The main issue was because toggling Anti-Lag+ through the driver for a specific game led to the modification of the game files which was detected as "cheating" by the game-specific anti-cheat technology. The widespread bans resulted in several developers and publishers asking gamers to avoid Anti-Lag+ in their games.

AMD would also remove the Anti-Lag+ driver from their webpage and later issue a new driver that rolled back Anti-Lag+ support. This meant that the driver-side Anti-Lag+ which was promised would be reverted and it's been almost 4 months since we saw the technology in action. However, AMD is now confirming that Anti-Lag+ is coming back and it will be in a far better state than before.

Yes, coming soon.

AMD Anti-Lag+ support is still available in the games that support it. AMD has worked with these devs to add Anti-Lag+ support and doesn't require a driver-side toggle for enablement. As of now, AMD has the following Anti-Lag+ supported games:

  • Apex Legends
  • Overwatch 2
  • Dying Light 2
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Fortnite
  • Last of Us: Part 1
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Borderlands 3
  • The list might seem smaller than the previous one because all online games were removed due to the player bans. We might see them added again once AMD rolls out the newer version that works better with online titles. The technology will still be supported by the newer RDNA 3 GPUs (Radeon RX 7000) while the rest of the GPUs will support the standard Anti-Lag technology. Besides this, a few new and upcoming FSR 3 titles were also confirmed by AMD which include:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Farming Simulator 22
  • House Flipper 2
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
  • Mortal Online 2
  • MotorCubs RC
  • Nightingale
  • REMNANT II
  • Starfield (beta update)
  • Starship Troopers: Extermination
  • The Thaumaturge
  • The Talos Principle 2
  • Expect more information from AMD on Anti-Lag+ enablement in the coming weeks.
