Valve’s Steam Officially Ends Support For Windows 7 and Windows 8

Steam has officially dropped support for "outdated" Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8, marking the end of an era for gamers still attached to the old versions.
On Valve's Steam Support page, the firm has revealed that future platform updates won't include support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, which means that older versions of Microsoft's operating system will be deprived of security updates and technical support. This means that the users on the mentioned platforms are advised to switch to the latest versions anytime soon, given that utilizing Steam on Windows 7/8 won't be the ideal choice.
As of January 1, 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, existing Steam Client installations on these operating systems will no longer receive updates of any kind including security updates.
Steam Support will be unable to offer users technical support for issues related to the old operating systems, and Steam will be unable to guarantee continued functionality of Steam on the unsupported operating system versions.
This step taken by Valve was originally announced almost a year ago when the firm already warned users to avoid using Windows 7/8. Based on Steam's Hardware Survey, around 99 percent of the platform's users are on Windows 10 or 11 nowadays, hence the decision by Valve seems like the right one. However, it does mark the end of a nostalgic period since applications are now ending their support for outdated versions.
