SK hynix displayed its high-end consumer storage product, the Platinum P51 Gen5 SSD, which boasts up to 14 GB/s speeds.

A few months ago, SK hynix showed its brand-new Platinum P51 Gen5 SSD which was a high-end consumer storage product based around a 238-Layer 3D TCL NAND flash design. At Computex, it looks like SK hynix silently upgraded this product to hit even higher transfer rates along with specs that are made to impress.

According to SK hynix, its Platinum P51 Gen5 SSD now features up to 14,000 MB/s Read & 12,000 MB/s Write speeds, up from the 13,500 MB/s Read and 11,500 MB/s Write speeds we previously saw. The drive also comes with the same SK hynix 238-layer 3D TLC NAND Flash ICs and has a 4-lane PCIe Gen5 interface. It also features 2 Million (2000K) Read and Write IOPS.

The drive comes in 2 TB, 1 TB, and 500 GB capacity flavors and while it was showcased with a heatsink-less design, you can expect SK hynix to market its Haechi H01 or similar cooling solution for this product. The most important part about this SSD is the controller and for that, SK hynix is utilizing its in-house Aries Gen5 SSD controller which is designed specifically to meet the demands of AI workloads, loading LLMs instantly.
