Sabrent’s Upcoming Rocket 5 Gen5 SSDs Previewed With Blistering Fast 14 GB/s Speeds

Sabrent has teased its next-gen Rocket 5 Gen5 NVMe SSDs which offer up to 4 TB capacities and speeds of up to 14 GB/s.

Sabrent is a leading firm when it comes to storage offerings in the market, particularly those that are targeted towards the higher-end segment, where consumers desire top-of-the-line speeds and storage. Sabrent's Rocket lineup is quite popular when it comes to achieving top-tier performance, and it looks like the firm looks to go one step ahead with a new entrant in the lineup, the Rocket 5.

TweakTown reports that Sabrent has been preparing for the Rocket 5 Gen5 SSD, and the company has released a glimpse of it, through benchmarks and initial marketing images. The performance of the SSD at CrystalDiskMark reveals that the Rocket 5 is capable of reaching read & write speeds of up to 14,000 MB/sec and 12,000 MB/sec respectively. Moreover, random read/write speeds are reported to reach up to 1.4 million IOPS.

Such speeds place the Rocket 5 on the top of the list when it comes to read/write performance, setting a new threshold in the markets for others to follow.

Interestingly, it is disclosed that Sabrent built the Rocket 5 Gen5 SSD in collaboration with Phison, which in itself is the leading firm when it comes to designing SSD controllers. Phison has recently unveiled its PS5026-E26 Max14um SSD controller which reaches up to 14.7 GB/s of read speeds. While Sabrent hasn't revealed what type of equipment the Rocket 5 comes with onboard, it is evident that it would feature Phison's flagship SSD controllers since the performance figures match each other, and Phison is the only company for now that has achieved such speeds.

The distinctive factor that Sabrent's Rocket 5 SSD holds is its apparent thermal performance, which the company states is optimal enough, that one won't need separate cooling solutions. Sabrent says that the Rocket 5 Gen5 SSD works perfectly fine with the SSD heatsink on your motherboards, and you wouldn't need to buy any sort of external "large blocks" of heatsink to cool the SSD down, which is an achievement on its own considering how hot the Gen5 SSDs can get.

Sabrent hasn't revealed specifics such as the release date or pricing of the Rocket 5 Gen5 SSDs, but it is reported that it would be available in multiple configurations such as 1TB, 2TB, & 4TB options, with each of them having its respective peak read/write speeds. However, the 2TB and the 4TB variant will feature the highest-end speeds, which we have talked about. Expect more information to be unveiled at CES 2024, which commences in a few days.
