NVIDIA's Blackwell AI servers are reportedly going to face limited production as Foxconn expects to ship small quantities in late 2024.

NVIDIA's Blackwell has come under production woes, but NVIDIA never verified this claim and instead has disclosed that they are on track. However, Bloomberg has now reported that Team Green has faced a roadblock and that it will push back the release of Blackwell products in the markets. As we reported earlier, NVIDIA can't afford a delay of two to four months, hence the strategy here will be to ship in "smaller quantities", with Foxconn expected to push out the initial batch.

Bloomberg has also reported that Foxconn will be responsible for shipping a small volume of Blackwell AI servers, notably the GB200. Initially, it was expected that we might see larger quantities being shipped by Q4 2024; however, with NVIDIA revising the Blackwell chips, the timeline of mass-shipping has now been pushed into Q1 2025, but in general, the lineup hasn't faced a delay, rather a certain chip-design roadblock which has compromised the supply.

Interestingly, we are still unaware of the actual problem, with some sources quoting a defect within the interconnect technique while others claim "heat issues." However, in our previous coverage, we did shed light upon the shortage of "liquid-cooling" components in the industry, which has affected the supply chain, so there are plenty of issues surrounding the Blackwell architecture. But we all know NVIDIA, and with the massive budget they have on their hands, these issues will hopefully be short-lived.

It is expected that initial quantities of Blackwell AI servers will be acquired by NVIDIA's "dearest" clients, which include Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon, putting these firms at a potential lead in the AI race. In general, the hype surrounding Blackwell is immense in the markets, especially in terms of the financial gains NVIDIA is expected to witness since the firm is set to sell millions of Blackwell products, potentially bringing in revenue that is much higher than previous generations. So, gear up for the next "AI gold rush," which, since this time, is going to be much more aggressive.
