NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Once Again Reclaims Top Spot & Replaces The RTX 3060 On Steam Hardware Survey

This month's Steam Hardware Survey has been published, & the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 has once again reclaimed its top position, replacing the RTX 3060.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 fell to third place after last month's lead. However, the information from last month appears to have been incorrect, with many graphics cards showing wrong share percentages from surveyed users. This month, we are seeing similar numbers to what has occurred in previous Steam Surveys, with the NVIDIA GTX 1650 returning to the top spot.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and 1060 GPUs have returned to first and second place, respectively, with the RTX 3060 desktop graphics card returning to third. Following the desktop variant, the RTX 3060 laptop GPU comes in third place, with the RTX 2060 and GTX 1050 Ti following behind.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards on the Steam Hardware and Software survey are not combined for the desktop and mobile variants. Still, older graphics card generations, such as the company's GTX 1650 graphics cards, combine laptop and desktop GPUs.

This makes it a little more challenging to discern which version consumers prefer. However, looking at the RTX 3060 family of GPUs, which are the most popular of last generations graphics, shows a 13.44% share, with the GTX 1650, GTX 1660, and GTX 2060 series showing a share of 8.83%, 6.93%, and 6.34%, respectively. Rounding out the top five is the GeForce RTX 3070 desktop graphics card at 6.1% share.

NVIDIA graphics cards remain popular amongst Steam gamers, with the last generation's graphics cards holding a nearly 30% share, while the RTX 20 generation has 11%. The RTX 40 series (Ada Lovelace) graphics cards are still slow to adopt, with the share only being 1.61%. However, compared to the previous month, that has doubled over that time. But, with the last survey having several inconsistencies, it might be better to look at prior surveys.

AMD is lacking behind NVIDIA with a share of 2.97% which contains the RX 6000 series GPUs. The RX 5000 series from AMD holds a 1.42% share of previous generations, while 3.38% is for the RX 500 series graphics cards. New graphics cards from the RX 7000 series are still absent from the survey, showing that the latest generation is also slow for AMD to seek adoption. Lastly, the Vega generation GPUs, including the iGPU series, hold 2.03% of Steam's Hardware and Software survey shares.

Looking at the CPU share on Steam, the Intel chips continue to be the most popular choice with 67.14% share after the correction while AMD holds second place with 32.84% share. AMD CPUs have been gaining share faster and we can soon expect a 50/50 split if things remain to go by this trajectory.
