NVIDIA Ends GeForce RTX 4080 & 4070 Ti GPU Production As “SUPER” Launch Imminent
NVIDIA Ends GeForce RTX 4080 & 4070 Ti GPU Production As “SUPER” Launch Imminent

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4080 & 4070 Ti GPUs are reportedly being discontinued and will no longer be produced since the "SUPER" launch is imminent.
The report comes from Chinese Board Channel Forums where users with close industry links to board partners have revealed that two of NVIDIA's existing GeForce RTX GPUs have already been dropped from mass production and will now be entering the discontinuation phase. The two GPUs include the GeForce RTX 4080 and the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.
Both the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 & RTX 4070 Ti GPUs were launched almost a year back & were regarded as poor value compared to the outgoing generation. The GeForce RTX 4080 was priced at $1199 US while the GeForce RTX 4070 TI, originally titled the 4080 12 GB, was launched at $799 US. The card was previously going to be priced at $899 US but NVIDIA decided to "Unlaunch" it & when the card did come back, it featured a $100 US lower MSRP. But despite that, the card saw a heated battle with the Radeon RX 7900 XT which offered more memory and faster raster performance.
NVIDIA announces official discontinuation of production of two RTX series GPUs
According to relatively accurate information, several NVIDIA RTX40 series GPUs have entered the discontinuation stage, and the follow-up is only to digest the inventory cutoff, mainly involving two GPU series NV that have stopped mass production.
NV has stopped mass production of RTX4080\4070TI series GPU models. The last distribution of goods in the 2023Q4 quarter has ended. Each AIC brand has digested its own inventory and is waiting for the arrival of subsequent new products.

Now, NVIDIA is trying to fix some of that market positioning with its upcoming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER which will feature better specifications, and the Ti SUPER model in particular will get more VRAM and up to 15% average performance uplifts. That's why NVIDIA and its AIBs will start offloading the existing GeForce RTX 4080 & 4070 Ti stock so we will be able to get some discounted deals this holiday season prior to the "SUPER" Launch which is expected in 2024 (January).
The report also highlights that the last GeForce RTX 4080 & RTX 4070 Ti GPUs have already been distributed by NVIDIA and AIBs will now focus on the "inventory cutoff" phase which is to sell as many units as possible to make room for the upcoming launch. The last distribution of these chips from NVIDIA happened this quarter (Q4 2023).
There's no telling how big of an inventory of chips were delivered to AIB but it should last them a good while to prepare more GeForce RTX 4080 & RTX 4070 Ti SKUs. But while production ends for the older cards, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the end of these cards & we will continue to see them in retail, except the main focus would be on the newer series.
