NuPhy Air60 V2 Review — Taking the Crown

Mechanical keyboards have come a long way from where they first started, and over the past couple of years, we have made a lot of improvements. Sure, some would argue that the Hall Effect magnetic keyboards are better, but that does not discount everything that is happening in the field of mechanical keyboards, and to provide more evidence to this, we have the NuPhy Air60 V2, which is coming to take the crown away from all the other low profile mechanical keyboards and honestly, this has become a permanent fixture in my bag.

NuPhy reached out to me a couple of weeks ago, and I have been using the NuPhy Air60 V2. I have to admit I was a bit hesitant when I had to stop using the Akko MOD007B HE, but I quickly managed to adjust to this keyboard. I have been using it for almost a week, and I am really happy with how this keyboard turned out.

NuPhy did me right and sent me the NuFolio as well as shine through keycaps, along with the NuPhy Air60 V2 itself. The unboxing experience was as smooth as it could be, and here is what I got in the box.

  • 1 x Air60 V2 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard
  • 1 x USB-C to USB-A Cable (1.5 m)
  • 1 x USB-C to USB-C Cable (0.2 m)
  • 1 x 2.4G Receiver
  • 11 x Extra Keycaps
  • 4 x Extra Switches
  • 1 x Keycap/Switch Puller
  • 1 x Sticker Set
  • 1 x Quick Guide/Poster
  • 1 x Q&A
  • Needless to say, NuPhy provides everything that you need to get started with the keyboard, and honestly, I am happy that the keyboard does not follow any complicated processes. It is QMK/VIA compatible, making the process a lot easier when it comes to using the keyboard. Below, you can find the complete specifications of the keyboard.

  • Switch Type: Gateron Low-profile Mechanical (KS-33)
  • Layout: ANSI 60%
  • Number of Keys: 64
  • Hot-swappable Support: Yes
  • N-key Rollover Support: Yes
  • Backlight: RGB-LED
  • Backlight Modes: 40
  • Compatible System: macOS/Windows/Linux/Android/iOS
  • Angle: 3.2º/ 7.0º / 10.0º
  • NuPhy Air60 V2 I have is in Basalt Black, but it is available in two more colors, too. Not only that, but the keyboard is rich in switch options. The keyboard is available in Gateron Red 2.0, Brown 2.0, and Blue 2.0. In addition to that, you also have Aloe, Cowberry, Wisteria, and Moss. I got the Aloe as it is the only switch with 37gf, which is great when it comes to typing.

The keyboard supports wired, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth support. The first two modes support a 1,000Hz polling rate, so if you are looking to play while on 2.4GHz, you are not going to run into any issues. I have been using the keyboard on both wired and 2.4GHz, and have not run into any issues. The connection is solid. The keyboard works without any issues.

The NuPhy Air60 V2 also has per-key RGB lighting, and this is the first low-profile keyboard that I have used with such beautiful lighting. The lights are bright, there are almost 40 effects that you can choose from, and the best thing is that all the controls can be done from the keyboard itself, and you don't really need to have any software if you don't want to use any. There are two side lights as well, and while they were a bit distracting at first, I got used to them really quickly. I love the fact that one of the lights can be used for the battery indicator, so you know when to actually plug your keyboard in.

Moving onto the battery, I received the NuPhy Air60 V2 last Monday, which means that I have been using the keyboard for 6 days on a single charge with RGB turned off. I do turn on the lights when I am working in the dark, but so far, the battery indicator is still glowing yellow, which is certainly a good thing.

Another thing that I really love about the NuPhy Air60 V2 is the way it is constructed. The entire keyboard feels solid, and there is even a metal plate on the back to add some heft to the board itself. Don't worry. However, despite that metal plate, the keyboard feels light and can easily slide inside your bag without the feeling of added weight. The board itself has no flex whatsoever, so you can be at ease knowing that your keyboard is not going to break in transit or when you are carrying it around with you.

After using the NuPhy Air60 V2 for a good chunk of time, I am very, very pleased with how the keyboard turned out to be. For me, this is the best low-profile mechanical keyboard I have used, and yes, I know I previously called the Keychron K1 Max the best in this regard, but after using this, my views have changed. The Air60 v2 just does everything better--it feels better, it sounds better, the lights shine brighter on this, and the keyboard just feels fuller, as well.

If I were to change anything about the NuPhy Air60 V2, I would make it a bit larger so my large hands could adjust better to a smaller keyboard, but that is more of a me problem than a problem with the way this keyboard is designed. It's compact, efficient, beautiful, and perfect, as far as I am concerned, and I will continue to use it for my future reviews and work, too.

The NuPhy Air60 V2 is the perfect low-profile mechanical keyboard that is efficient, beautiful, and works just the way it is supposed, while providing an excellent look and feel.
