MSI Z790M MPOWER Motherboard Pushes Patriot Xtreme 5 MPower DDR5 Memory To A Stunning 8600 MT/s Speed On Ambient Cooling

Patriot's latest Xtreme 5 MPower DDR5 memory, designed for MSI's Z790M MPOWER, has been overclocked to 8600 MT/s on ambient cooling.
Earlier this year, MSI introduced its Z790M MPOWER motherboard, an overclocker's dream for just $199 US. This motherboard featured two DDR5 DIMM slots, making it perfect for memory tuning & overclocking and Patriot followed up by releasing a dedicated DDR5 kit for this board, the Xtreme 5 MPower.
The Patriot Xtreme 5 MPower DDR5 memory kit was also showcased at Computex 2024 where we learned that it would come in 6000 MT/s and up to 8000 MT/s speeds. Now, overclocker, Benny Lodewijk Nitolo Lase, has tested the overclocking potential of both the MPower motherboard and the MPower memory and the results are quite insane.
With the Patriot Xtreme 5 MPower DDR5 memory installed on the MSI Z790M MPower, Benny was able to push the memory speeds up to 8600 MT/s. The kit used was the 8000 MT/s CL38 module(s) with a maximum XMP mode of 7600 MT/s (CL36-48-48-84-117). The manual overclock is set at DDR5-8600 MT/s (CL40-52-52-134-186-2T). The voltage was set to 1.48V & what's even better is that the overclock was achieved without any premium cooling. It was all ambient cooling and the heatsink on the Xtreme 5 was able to do its job well, keeping the DIMMs stable with such a high overclock.
The Patriot Xtreme 5 MPower DDR5 memory was tested using an Intel Core i9-14900KF & reported zero errors within the TestMem5 tool. This shows that the memory was stable through its stability run.
The overclocker was also able to achieve a maximum DDR5 frequency of 10,314 MT/s (CL72-126-126-126-127-2T) as shown below:
Additionally, the user also shared the AIDA64 Cache & Memory benchmark results which are reported at 129.54 GB/s Read, 127.50 GB/s Write, 125.53 GB/s Copy, and a Latency of 59.0ns. This goes off to show the overclocking capabilities of MSI's budget tier Z790M MPower motherboard. Since the launch of the MPower, other motherboard makers have also followed up with their budget overclocking solutions such as ASUS's Z790-AYW OC WIFI.
This is the last hurrah of the Intel Z790 platform and now all eyes are set on Intel's next-gen Z890 motherboards. The upcoming motherboards will support Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs which will further push the memory overclocking and tuning capabilities forward so stay tuned as they approach launch later this year.
