MSI showed off its upcoming MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard at Gamescom 2024 which packs a lot of great features & IO capabilities.

The MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard has been designed from the ground up to be a powerful high-end solution. The motherboard comes in the standard ATX design & features an all-black color scheme which looks great. The motherboard also features RGB esthetics such as the MPG logo on the PCH and the MSI "Dragon" logo on the IO plate.

Coming to the specifications, the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard adopts a 20-Phase VRM solution which comes in an 18+2+1 phase design with 110A power stages. This motherboard is designed to extend the capabilities of current and future generation of Ryzen CPUs which will be compatible with the AM5 socket. The motherboard also features four DDR5 DIMM slots which should be able to support up to 192 GB capacities and speeds of over 8000 MT/s. The motherboard is supplied power through dual 8-pin connectors.

In terms of design, the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard comes with lots of face plates and heatsinks. The whole M.2 area is covered by heatsinks with both featuring EZ M.2 latches that are easy to remove and install. This user-friendly design is also accommodated by MSI's EZ PCIe Release mechanism which makes removing the primary PCIe device easy.

We also saw this design in the other two X870 offerings at Computex 2024. There are two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, and four M.2 slots which include a mix of Gen5/Gen4 capabilities. The topmost slot features a magnetic lock which enables RGB light to emit through the "Carbon" logo.

Since X870E motherboards are loaded with Gen5 slots, the company has added a dedicated 8-pin power input at the bottom to feed the PCIe lanes. All four M.2 slots also come with dual-sided M.2 SSD thermal pads and there are lots of nifty features such as Power On/Off, Reset switches, Debug LED, EZ Debug LED, and right-angled ports. There are two USB 3.0, 1 USB 3.2Gen2, and four SATA III ports.

Removing the topmost VRM heatsinks, we can see a secondary heatsink that is used to cool the USB4 controller that powers two USB4 ports on the rear IO panel. There's also a secondary PCB that houses three buttons (Flash BIOS, Clear CMOS, Smart Button) and 6 USB 10G ports.

There are also two 10G USB Type-C ports, three 10G USB Type-A ports, an HDMI port, a WIFI7 antenna connector, a 7.1 channel HD audio jack, 5GbE & 2.5 GbE LAN inputs. The motherboard definitely is a decked-out design with all the goodies you'd need. MSI will also have higher-end X870E MEG series products but they are planned for unveiling close to the official launch on the 30th of September so stay tuned for more.
