MSI's Spatium M580 Gen5 SSDs will soon be available with premium Frozr Liquid & Frozr+ Air-cooled designs with up to 14 GB/s speeds.

Last year at Computex 2023, we got to see MSI's high-end M570 and M580 Gen5 SSD series that offered 12 GB/s speeds. These solutions came in passive and active-cooled Frozr variants with a massive heatsink. We even tested the Spatium M570 PRO recently and found it to be absolutely amazing when it comes to thermal performance. Now, MSI is pushing the boundaries of cooling within the SSD space with a unique new solution.

The MSI Spatium M580 FROZR Liquid Gen5 SSD is the next chapter of Spatium and Frozr cooling. These new storage solutions are designed for enthusiasts and get ready for faster NVMe speeds coming later this year. The Frozr Liquid design is a hybrid SSD thermal technology that can work as a passive, active, and liquid-cooled solution. The SSD is attached to a standard heatsink which incorporates a heat transfer base that makes direct contact with the SSD controller & NAND flash.

This heat is transferred to a purpose-built radiator with well-routed pipes and fins that channel the air coming from MSI's exclusive blower fan design. The fan sits next to the water pump which is tiny yet effective in size. According to MSI, the Spatium M580 Frozr Liquid drive will come in 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB flavors with speeds of up to 14 GB/s Read and 12 GB/s Write. Learning from its past heatsink implementation, the solution will be designed in a way that is compatible with many motherboards without installation issues.

In addition to the Liquid-cooled variant, the Spatium M580 series will also come in the standard fan-cooler Frozr+ variant which incorporates a Torx 5.0 fan. This fan delivers 23% more airflow vs traditional fan designs and cools down the massive heatsink which features a 6mm heatpipe for better heat dissipation. This heat pipe also sits within the heat transfer surface and makes direct contact with the controller and NAND Flash with its Core Pipe design.

MSI also showcased its new Spatum NVMe M.2 enclosure which features a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C interface and rated at 20 Gbps. It supports M.2 SSDs (2242/2260/2280) and is IP68 compliant. One great decision by MSI is the addition of its Q-latch design for this enclosure which makes securing the SSD a lot easier.

MSI doesn't have a specific timeframe for when these two new products will launch but the Spatium M580 Gen5 Frozr Liquid and Frozr+ are something to look forward to as Gen5 and the SSD market continue to evolve with new cooling designs and faster capabilities.
