Moore Thread's MTT S80, The World's Only PCIe 5.0 GPU With 16 GB VRAM, Now Available For $164 US 1

Chinese firm Moore Threads, MTT S80, gaming GPU receives massive performance uplifts in the latest tests courtesy of extensive driver optimizations.

Well, when you look at China's domestic GPU options, Moore Threads is a leading name not only because the competition in the markets is currently lower but also because the firm has managed to upscale its resources rapidly, which is why the MTT S80 GPU has seen a performance boost in various gaming benchmarks tested by ITHome.

This shows that not only is the in-house gaming GPU segment heating, but with continuous efforts by the likes of Moore Threads, they are trying to close the gap between mainstream companies like NVIDIA and AMD, yet there is still a long way to go.

ITHome extensively covered the Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU, revealing that the platform has seen a massive expansion in game compatibility. The GPU drivers now support every top game in China, and many also get optimized performance.

For a quick rundown on specifications, the Moore Threads MTT S80 is the world's only true PCIe 5.0 compatible graphics card with 16 GB GDDR6 memory and 4096 MUSA cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. The graphics card was introduced back in late 2022 and launched in early 2023. So overall, while on paper, the GPU might look decent, it wasn't able to compete with NVIDIA's GTX 1050 in last year's benchmarks, but the situation is different now.

ITHome utilized the firm's latest 260.70 driver version, which was updated a few days ago. The first game tested was the popular Genshin Impact, and at launch, Chinese users were aware that the MTT S80 couldn't even run the game properly despite being played in a stripped-down resolution. However, with the new update, the GPU squeezed out a decent 50-60 FPS in a 1080p resolution, along with high image quality. Additionally, GPU utilization rates increased massively since this was a huge issue with previous drivers. Overall, we are looking at double the increment in performance compared to last year's benchmark results.

A similar pattern was witnessed in games like League of Legends as well, which managed to run at  380-410 FPS under 1080p and 320-350 FPS under 2K, which is yet again double the numbers from last year. ITHome further tested titles such as Counter Strike-2, Devil May Cry 5, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and overall, the FPS increment was somewhere around 80-100%, varying upon the in-game settings. In synthetic benchmarks like the 3DMark Fire Strike test, the Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU delivered double the performance, securing 8617 points.

Moore Threads has managed to deliver huge performance bumps in their gaming GPUs simply by refining their onboard drivers and providing extensive compatibility with mainstream titles. It would have been nicer if Moore Threads took more time to optimize it than to rush the launch in the first place but at least they continued to develop the software suite for its MTT S80 GPU. These driver optimizations would also come to the trimmed-down MTT S70 graphics cards and the GPU vendor is already at work on its next solution.
