Lexar Launches PLAY 2280 PCI-E Gen4 SSD For PlayStation 5, Up To 8 TB With Heatsink

The Lexar PLAY 2280 SSD offers three different storage capacities, up to 8 TB, and PCIe Gen4 speeds for fast data transfer on PlayStation 5.
Lexar has announced the availability of its latest PCI-E Gen 4.0 SSD called PLAY 2280, specially crafted for PlayStation 5 console. The SSD is tested and approved for the PS5 console but is fully compatible with PC as well. The PLAY 2280 SSD is a regular 2280 form-factor storage drive, which provides up to 7400MB/s of sequential read and 6500MB/s of sequential write speeds.
With such a blazing fast transfer speed, expect the PLAY 2280 SSD to quickly load the games and OS, enhancing the overall experience. Such high-speed SSDs reduce the load times significantly compared to traditional SATA drives, making them ideal for hardcore and serious gamers who value every second.
The SSD uses HMB and SLC Dynamic cache for improving overall performance, faster data access, and quick response. PLAY 2280 SSD is rigorously tested like any other premium Lexar SSD and comes with 1.5M hours of lifespan. It features a white and gray-themed heatsink with a design that resembles the PlayStation 5 console and will keep the heat away when the load is high.
As per the company, users who install the PLAY 2280 SSD won't need to delete or transfer the games from the console but can simply play their favorite games right from the SSD directly. The Product Marketing Manager, Sherry Chiang said,
The PLAY 2280 SSD is the perfect companion for the PS5, offering lots of additional storage, the ability to play directly from the drive, and the performance that gamers demand,
To ensure the SSD can meet the budget as well as user requirements, it comes in 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB storage capacities. While 2TB and 4TB will be enough to store a few dozen Triple-A titles, the 8TB edition can store over 150 AAA games (50GB average size of each game).
The SSD comes with a 5-year warranty and is currently available for purchase on Amazon.com. The Lexar PLAY 2280 PCI-E Gen 4.0 SSD with 4TB capacity has been launched for sale at an MSRP of $379.99. However, the 2TB and 8TB editions will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2024, providing users with more options to choose from.
