The first tests of Intel's Sapphire Rapids Refresh CPUs, the 44-Core Xeon W9-3575X & the 26-Core Xeon W7-2595X have been revealed.
The Intel Sapphire Rapids Refresh CPUs are coming to the W790 platforms soon, featuring more cores, more cache, and faster clock speeds. These chips will be targeted as workstation platforms but will also support various overclocking capabilities offered on enthusiast motherboards to set new records. The latest details on the refreshed Xeon Workstation CPUs come from SKYWALKERAMD at Hwbot who has shared the full-on test results of both the Xeon W9-3575X and the Xeon W7-2595X CPUs. Let's start with the specifications, the Xeon W9-3575X is a 44-core chip with 88 threads, a clock of 2.2 GHz base and 4.6 GHz boost, 97.50 MB of L3 cache, and 88 MB of L2 cache. The chip features a TDP of 340W and also gets 8-channel memory support, demonstrated by the eight 32 GB memory modules (DDR5-7000), the chip was tested with. The CPU was tested on the ASUS PRO WS W790E-SAGE SE motherboard.
The second chip to be tested is the Xeon W7-2595X CPU which is a 26-core part with 52 threads, a clock speed of 2.8 GHz base, and 4.8 GHz boost, 48.75 MB of L3 cache, and 52 MB of L2 cache. This CPU is configured with a 250W TDP and was running quad-channel memory with four 16 GB sticks clocked at DDR5-6000 on the ASUS PRO WS W790-ACE motherboard.
Compared to their predecessors, the Xeon W9-3575X CPU offers 8 additional cores, 16 additional threads, 15 MB more L3 cache, and slightly lower clock speeds which can be attributed to the ES nature of this chip. For the Xeon W7-2595X, you will get 2 additional cores, 2 additional threads, and a 3.75 MB higher cache capacity and similar clocks on this ES part with a higher base power too.

Now coming to the CPU performance, both Intel Sapphire Rapids Refresh chips offer a slight uplift over the predecessors thanks to the extra cores, cache and TDP. These aren't a radical change over the previous lineup but should offer decent gains within similar or lower price points.
The platform is also the same which would allow workstation users and enthusiasts to slot in the chips without the need to move to a new platform. These tests reveal that we are getting closer to the launch of Intel's Sapphire Rapids "Xeon" refresh CPUs but it looks like even with all the new updates, AMD is still going to retain its dominant position in the workstation and HEDT segment with Threadripper offerings.
