Intel Microcode Caused “Unsupported CPU” BSOD Issue, New BIOS With Updated Microcode Coming Soon

Intel's own microcode has been found to be the culprit causing various "Unsupported CPU" BSOD issues on 13th Gen CPUs & the company is already working on a new microcode.

Last month, we saw several cases of BSODs on Intel platforms running the latest 13th Gen CPUs. The error code was very unusual as it mentioned "Unsupported Processor" when running a 13th Gen CPU on a 600 or 700-series motherboard.

Initially, the issue was identified with MSI boards but more recently, we have seen this issue come up on motherboards from other brands as well including ASUS and Gigabyte. MSI was quick to give affected users a temporary workaround but it looks like Intel themselves have gotten to the bottom of this issue which is not caused by the motherboards but in fact, has to do with the latest micro-code.

In its latest statement, Intel states that its latest microcode for 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs, versions 0x119 and 0x4119 (released in June 2023), have mismatched GDS_NO flag values between P-Cores & E-Cores. This issue affects processors with the IDs 0xB0671, 0xB06A2, and 0xB06A3. The CPU IDs can be cross-referenced from the following table (Source: Intel):

The other two IDs which include 13th Gen CPUs (0xB06F2) and 0xB06F5) are not affected but Intel is stating that anyone running an affected CPU with microcode version 0x119 or 0x4119 may get a blue screen (BSOD) after updating to the latest Windows Updates. These updates are listed below:

intel made no public comments about a workaround and has provided final fixes to address this issue. These latest microcode versions would be 0x11D and 0x411C and will be released for the affected 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs. If you want to use the latest Microsoft Windows update, then Intel makes things clear to update your PC to the latest microcode version. Motherboard makers will also roll out the BIOS updates with the latest CPU microcode very soon.
