Intel's Core i9-14900K CPU Showcases Strong Rendering Performance But Still Loses To AMD Ryzen 9 7950X

Intel's 14th Gen Core i9-14900KF flagship CPU has leaked out once again, this time posting the fastest single & multi-threaded performance scores in Geekbench 6.

The latest benchmarks were leaked within Geekbench 6 and were run by well-known leaker, One Raichu. The leaker managed to run the Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU in both Geekbench 6 and older Geekbench 5 benchmarks. Based on the performance displayed, it looks like we might be looking at a chip that's about the same as the retail model and not an ES chip that we've seen being tested in prior benchmarks. As such, the performance is expected to be a bit better & we are also getting these tests on a proper benchmarking environment versus the weird choice of memory and board combos that we got before.

Starting with the specs, the Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU will feature 24 cores & 32 threads in an 8+16 configuration. The CPU will feature up to 36 MB of Smart Cache and a base TDP of 125W (253W PL2). It will feature clock speeds of 3.2 GHz at base & up to 6.0 GHz with a Thermal Velocity Boost. This will be a +200 MHz frequency jump over the Core i9-13900K and same as the Core i9-13900KS.

The testing configuration included the Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU running at its stock frequencies on an ASRock Z790 Taichi motherboard with 32 GB of DDR5-7000 memory. Performance-wise, the CPU scored an impressive 3347 points in single-core and 23,051 points within the multi-core tests in Geekbench 6 which are already the fastest scores we have seen to date of any mainstream chip. In Geekbench 5, the same CPU scored 2412 points in single-core & 26,972 points in the multi-core tests. Following is how these results compare to recent Intel and AMD chips:

The impressive 6 GHz out-of-the-box clock speeds make the Intel Core i9-14900KF up to 13% faster than the Core i9-13900K in single-threaded and 15% faster in multi-threaded tests while the same chip is up to 20% faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X in multi-threaded and 15% faster in the single-threaded tests. That's quite a jump in terms of Geekbench performance coming from a simple clock speed boost. These tests also make sense since the 14th Gen CPUs will be able to support a better IMC which will lead to faster memory support.

One Raichu, the leaker, also states that he can possibly obtain an even higher score under the right conditions with the stock clocks but this goes off to show that the chip will need some really beefy cooling setups to unlock its true potential.

We already know that the CPU will be drawing an insane amount of power, reaching up to 300 Watts in multi-threaded workloads so you better be prepped if you plan to grab a 14th Gen processor. The good news is that the chips will be compatible with both 700 and 600 series motherboards and will be hitting retail shelves next month so there's still plenty of time to get the required components for your latest PC builds.
