Intel's Budget 14th Gen Core i5-14450HX Laptop CPU With 10 Cores & 4.8 GHz Clocks Spotted 1

Intel's high-end Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs for laptops which include the Core i9-14900HX & Core i7-14700HX have leaked out.

It looks like Intel has started enabling its partners with access to its upcoming 14th Gen Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs which will be targeting the high-end laptop segment. The latest leaks have revealed two next-gen CPUs which include the Core i9-14900HX and the Core i7-14700HX.

First up, we have the top Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU which should retain the 8+16 configuration of the existing Core i9-13900HX and support a nominal clock speed boost for added performance. It's being used in the ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 16 "G634JYR" laptop which is an enthusiast-level design with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU and 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory.

On the other side, we have the Intel Core i7-14700HX will get the 8+12 core configuration. That's a  50% uplift in the number of E-Cores vs the Core i7-13700HX which offered 8 E-Cores and should provide a decent performance uplift. The CPU was spotted within the Intel reference evaluation platform featuring the Intel Arc A570M graphics and 64 GB of DDR5-4800 memory. Both of these configurations are designed for high-end gamers and we can also expect them to be really pricey.

There are also benchmarks but those are GPU specific so it makes little sense to compare those since the CPU is the main talking point in this leak.

Besides the core spec bump on certain SKUs, all 14th-Gen Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs will offer a clock speed bump. The Raptor Lake-S Refresh chips feature a +200 MHz boost so we might see a similar clock bump in the laptop refresh. Besides that, the upgraded configs will also carry more cache that can help in gaming applications. The CPUs will also come with new designs that support the higher TDPs and thermal envelopes of these chips. It looks like 14th-generation laptops will mostly be using NVIDIA's RTX 40 GPUs since those are the most premium graphics solutions one can find on the mobility platforms.

Intel's Raptor Lake-HX 14th Gen Refresh CPU family is currently scheduled for an early 2024 or CES launch. We can expect loads of laptops after the chips are officially introduced. The follow-up to the 14th Gen family will come later in early 2025 with the Arrow Lake-HX chips which we detailed here recently.
