FSP, the manufacturer of high-end PSU (Power Supply Units) currently offers its flagship design as a part of its Hydro series. The company has many options starting at 300W and up to 2000W which come in various segments. The company recently announced its new VITA series which is made to standardize each lineup within its respective segment rather than putting everything in the Hydro series. Today, we will be taking a look at the FSP VITA GM 1000W.

The VITA lineup sticks to the traditional air-cooling design and comes in two options, the GM which is 80+ Gold Rated, and the BD which is 80 Plus Bronze rated. So starting with our unit, we have got the FSP VITA GM 1000W unit which is an 80+ Gold compliant power supply. It's a fully modular PSU design like the majority of FSP's lineup.

Coming to the specifications, the FSP VITA GM 1000W unit we got offers a maximum DC output of 1000 Watts and an active PFC (≧ 0.9). It's an 80 PLUS GOLD unit with efficiency rated at ≥90% (240V). The PSU is fully compliant with Intel's C6 & C7 power states and has an operating temp of 0-40C. The PSU is fully compliant with the latest ATX 3.1, EPS 12V (V2.92) standards.

Some protection features that you get on the FSP Hydro PTM PRO series PSUs include:

  • Over Voltage Protection
  • Under Voltage Protection
  • Over Power Protection
  • Over Temperature Protection
  • Over Current Protection
  • Short Circuit Protection
  • As for the design of the PSU unit, it comes in a compact ATX form factor and measures 140 x 150 x 86 mm. The cooling is provided by a top-mounted 120 mm HYB (Hydraulic Bearing) fan which features semi-passive fan operation. FSP ships the Hydro PTM PRO 1350W PSU with a 10-year warranty and is priced at around $120-$130 US at online retailers. Some main features of the FSP Hydro PTM PRO series include:

  • The unit we received comes in a large package with a picture of the PSU on the front. The front also lists several features such as Japanese Bulk Capacitors, Fully Modular Design, a 10-Years Warranty, and support for the latest ATX 3.1 / PCIe 12V-2x6 standards.

The backside also offers a list of features which we have detailed above and we will get to more details in our tear-down in a bit.

Within the package, the PSU unit is held between foam packaging to protect it during shipping while the cables are jammed next to it.

The PSU comes with a few velcro cables ties and a right-angled 24-pin connector. There are also four screws supplied with the PSU for installation within your casing.

The PSU itself is packaged in a plastic cover.

Out of the package, the FSP VITA GM series rock a brand new design and are compact which is great for users whose PCs can't support the extended ATX designs that some of the higher power rated PSUs adopt.

On the back, you can see the power plug, the power switch, and a large mesh panel that acts as an exhaust vent.

Now depending on how you use the PSU, the bottom panel reads the specifications and power ratings. The PSU is rated to output a maximum of 83.3A and 1000W through the 12V rails.

The sides of the PSU have a nice FSP VITA logo.

Coming to the connectors, there are two 8-pin CPU connectors, a single 12V-2x6 connector, two PCI-e 8-pin connectors, an ATX 24-pin (14+10 pin) ATX connector, and three 5-pin connectors for peripherals.

The cables within the packaging pouch include the ATX 20+4 pin, two 4+4 pin CPU connectors, a single PCIe 12V-2x6 cable, 4 PCIe 6+2 connectors, 8 SATA connectors, and 4 MOLEX connectors.

FSP's PSU lineup is being updated for a new generation of PCs and the Vita GM series aims to supply the power needs of mainstream gamers and PC builders. With its smaller footprint and power ratings of up to 1000W, the VITA GM series makes for a solid PSU offering within the FSP family. The PSU also comes at a very good price point below $140 US which makes for a great buying choice if you are looking to take advantage of the newer PCIe/ATX standards on your new gaming hardware. The PSU also comes in a white-colored unit which retains the compact design and should only cost a slight bit extra. If you happen to be building a white PC build, then we an also recommend you the VITA GM series.
