Crucial Supercharges The Gen5 SSD Segment With T705 Series: Up To 14.5 GB/s Speeds Starting At $239

Crucial has taken one step ahead in the Gen5 SSD segment with the introduction of its blazing-fast T705 series which boasts up to 14.5 GB/s speeds.
When we tested the Crucial T700 Gen5 SSD a few months back, we found it to be the fastest one yet and now, the company is unveiling its brand new T705 SSDs which take things to the next level.
Starting off with the specifications, the Crucial (by Micron) T705 Gen5 SSDs are based on the latest Phison E26-max14um controller which delivers up to an 18% increase in read speeds versus the T700 series SSDs. We are talking about 14,500 MB/s of sequential reads and 12,700 MB/s of write speeds with these insane storage products. Following are some of the features of the new SSDs:
To achieve such high-performance speeds, Crucial has used its 232-layer 3D NAND flash with up to 2400 MT/s speeds and has also made each layer denser (14.6Gb/mm2). The SSDs also come with Micron's LPDDR4 DRAM with 1 GB per 1 TB of NAND Flash. The random read and write speeds are rated at up to 1,550K/1,800K IOPS and are nearly 2x faster than the fastest Gen4 SSDs. All SSDs are compliant with the PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 interface and come in M.2 2280 form factors. Micron has also worked with Phison and Microsoft to tune its T705 Gen5 SSDs around the DirectStorage API using the Phison I/O+ technology.
For cooling, the Crucial T705 Gen5 SSDs come in three flavors, a graphene pad and two heatsink variants. One heatsink variant is colored in black while the other is colored in white (Limited Edition). The heatsink is a slightly tuned version of the one we saw on the T700 series and has a managed thermal throttling limit of up to 81C and a protective thermal shutdown limit of 90C.
In terms of pricing, the Crucial T705 Gen5 SSDs start at $239 US for 1 TB, $399 US for 2 TB, and $689 US for 4 TB models. The heatsink variants come at $259 for 1 TB, $439 for 2 TB, and $729 US for the 4 TB variant. The 2 TB Limited Edition model is priced at $483 US. As for availability, the first T705 Gen5 SSDs are expected to hit retail on the 12th of March, 2024.
