China's customs authorities have sized an electronic scooter that had a total of 84 SSDs taped within it as a part of a smuggling tactic.

The General Administration of Customs WeChat account had an exciting situation recorded by Qingmao Customs. Qingmao is one of the subsidiaries of Gongbei Customs in China. On Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Cross-Border Industrial Zone, a man was detained after officials scanned the gentleman's Yadea KS series electronic scooter and found an inner package of 84 Kingston solid-state drives.

From ongoing glances, you would never have known the man was smuggling SSDs through borders. The person was pushing the Yadea KS series electric scooter, and one would assume he needed to charge up his ride after passing patrol. The gentleman traveled towards the line for non-declaration of merchandise and more. Customs members asked him to place his electronic scooter through the x-ray device to verify nothing was hidden in its chassis. As it moved along the conveyer, the customs authorities began to realize an unknown object was within the front bumper.

Being trained in situations such as these, customs dismantled the Yadea scooter's front section to discover that, somewhat cleverly wrapped, eighty-four Kingston SSDs were wrapped and placed into the scooter's axel. Customs detained the man and followed the guidelines for smuggling regulations set in the country.

The rules describe that any evasion from people passing between borders through means of concealing, disguising, or hiding, along with the transportation and publicizing information as means to sell black market wares, is considered prohibited by state law. Furthermore, any products or other items brought between borders should be taxed and will be regarded as smuggling if a person goes against these policies. The person will be tried as a criminal and investigated further depending on the severity level.

Last year, we reported about the same Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Customs officials who seized 308 tenth-gen Intel processors from two separate smuggling attempts. A driver was acting abnormally, and after a search of the vehicle and then the individual, officials discovered 256 Intel processors, specifically the Intel Gen Core i7-10700 and i9-10900K models, strapped to the body of the assailant, which were found attached to locations such as the calves and torso.

The monetary value of the Intel processors smuggling across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge borders was above ¥800,000, or $123,550. Another individual attempted to smuggle fifty-two Intel processors between the vehicle's driver and front seat passenger. The suspicious activity was recorded on video showing the entry and exit vehicles near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge border.
