Apple's new A18 and A18 Pro processors are the first designed for Apple Intelligence and is powering the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple's A18 and A18 Pro processors, introduced in the iPhone 16 series, represent a significant leap in performance and efficiency. Both chips are built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, allowing Apple to increase power and reduce energy consumption compared to previous generations.

The A18, found in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, features a 6-core CPU (with two performance cores and four efficiency cores), a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine designed for improved AI and machine learning tasks. This chip boasts a 30% performance increase over the A16 Bionic, along with a 40% faster GPU and improved energy efficiency, using 35% less power. It also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for enhanced gaming and graphics.

The A18 Pro, powering the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, builds on this with a slightly faster 6-core CPU, a 6-core GPU, and next-gen machine learning accelerators. Apple claims the A18 Pro is 15% faster than the A17 Pro, with improved memory bandwidth and energy savings of up to 20%. The chip also supports advanced gaming features, such as real-time ray tracing and console-quality graphics.

These chips are also central to Apple's new "Apple Intelligence" features, integrating enhanced AI capabilities into the iPhone 16 lineup for tasks like real-time object recognition and camera control(
