AMD's Threadripper PRO CPUs have done the impossible, shattering the 200K barrier in Cinebench with insane amounts of multi-threaded efficiency.

AMD achieved some impressive feats with its HEDT and Workstation-oriented Threadripper PRO & Ryzen Threadripper chips yesterday. While we have been seeing teasers of the insane performance potential that Threadripper 7000 CPUs have to offer, it looks like the final performance, especially in multi-threaded efficiency is simply unmatched.

At an overclocking event held back in October, AMD posted some big performance records with its flagship Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU which offers up to 96 cores and 192 threads. This CPU can be seen scoring 184028 points in the Cinebench R23, 8230 points in the Cinebench R24 & 1099230 points in the 7-zip benchmarks. These results easily outpaced the previous world-record entries by EPYC Genoa, Intel Sapphire Rapids, & Threadripper PRO 5000 CPUs. Following is the representation of the scores presented by AMD (Image Source: Quasarzone):

But these numbers are just the tip of the iceberg as ASUS's in-house overclocker, Elmor, has now pushed the CPU beyond what was thought impossible. With the help of LN2 cooling and ASUS's top WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI motherboard, the overclocker pushed the chip to an insane 6 GHz overclock across all of its 96 cores with a voltage supply of 1.55V. This allowed the Threadripper PRO 7995WX to score a record-shattering 201501 points which makes AMD's Threadripper platform the first in the world to break past the 200K barrier. The Hwbot submission can be found here.

Also, what's more impressive is the fact that the AMD Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU peaked out at 1600W power draw whereas Intel's Xeon W9-3495X scored its highest LN2 score in Cinebench by pulling almost 1900W of power. The Threadripper chip also ended up over 50% faster than the Intel Xeon SKU.

  • AMD Threadripper PRO 7995WX (6 GHz / 96 Cores / 1602W) - 201,501 (Cinebench R23)
  • Intel Xeon W9-3495X (5.5 GHz / 56 Cores / 1881W) - 132,220 (Cinebench R23)
  • Note: Credits To PCMag for the stock 7995WX CPU performance listed in the chat above!

Also, talking about the power efficiency and temperatures, it is simply impressive how the newest AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO CPUs peak out at similar power numbers as Intel's top 14900K while offering 2.66x cores and also running cooler. Now it should be stated that while the chips offer out-standing multi-threaded performance, the mainstream AMD & Intel CPUs are still the way to go for gaming builds but in more GPU-bound scenarios such as high-res gaming, the difference between performance would be less noticeable.

Also, the folks over at Overclocking.com pushed the Ryzen Threadripper 7980X & 7960X to new heights using chiller cooling which allowed them to hit up to 5.3 GHz across all 64 cores. Both of AMD's latest chips ran well under chiller and scored some impressive feats which you can check out over here.
