AMD Shows Ryzen 9 7840HS With Radeon 780M RDNA 3 GPU Faster Than GTX 1650 Max-Q, 35% Faster Than 680M at 15W

AMD has posted new marketing slides of its Ryzen 9 7840HS with Radeon 780M RDNA 3 GPU which is faster than the GTX 1650 Max-Q.
AMD is set to release its Ryzen 7040 HS/H/U series chips this month which will target the laptop, handheld console, and mini PC segments. As a part of its marketing campaign, Lenovo and AMD have showcased the CPU and graphics performance of its upcoming Ryzen 9 7840HS laptops. It looks like we can expect some great performance from this chip at launch. You can check out a early review here.
According to the marketing slides, the AMD Ryzen 9 7840HS offers a 16.5% increase in single and 28.9% increase in multi-threaded performance over its Rembrandt predecessor, the 7735HS, all at the same power.
Bilibili content creator, 极客湾Geekerwan, has data regarding the efficiency of the Radeon 780M integrated graphics which offers a 22% performance increase over its RDNA 2 predecessor, the Radeon 680M when running at 20W. However, what is more, surprising is that the Radeon 780M performed 35% higher when running at a lower 15W TDP. This new information shows that the Ryzen 7 7840HS will have an increased energy efficiency ratio compared to the previous generation.
A few systems are expected to utilize the new AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS processor, such as the AYANEO A1 Pro and the Xiaoxin Pro Ryzen Notebook.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS APU is built on the 4nm process node with Zen 4 core architecture. It will consist of 8 cores and 16 threads. The base clock on the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS APU will be set to 3.8 GHz with a boost of 5.1 GHz. A combined L3 cache of 16MB will be available with a TDP of 35 and up to 45W. The Radeon 780M integrated graphics on the chip is based on the RDNA 3 architecture with 12 Compute Units available. The IGPU clock frequency is 2700 MHz.
The performance of the RDNA 3 Radeon 780M iGPU being this close to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 shows that this chip can be a game-changer for the mainstream laptop market. The 1650 is currently the most popular GPU on Steam's database and if a integrated GPU offers performance that is on par with it, then that would indeed be awesome for mobility gamers.
