AMD Ryzen Surpasses Intel Core CPUs In Korean DIY Market, Ryzen 5 7500F Top-Selling AM5 Chip

AMD Ryzen CPUs have once again managed to surpass Intel Core CPUs in the Korean DIY market, as reported by Danwa Research.
Danawa Research, the leading Korean research outlet that compiles analytics data from various major DIY outlets has released their latest report which shows that AMD is once again leading over Intel in terms of CPU sales and volume. The Korean market has not been favorable to any specific brand and usually selects the CPUs based on their price and value proposition.
This is why after years of growth with the AM4 platform, the market for AMD's Ryzen CPUs started to decline against strong 12th Gen and 13th Gen offerings from Intel however in Q4 2023, that is changing and the latest monthly results show that AMD is once again on the top. The latest data shows that AMD was able to achieve a 50.75% market share in the DIY segment compared to the 49.25% market share of Intel CPUs.
While this is a very neck-on-neck share, it should be reported that Intel CPUs have been on a declining trend since August of 2023 and it looks like the main reason for this decline can be attributed to the lowering of prices for Ryzen CPUs, AM5 motherboards, DDR5 memory and also the availability of more SKUs.
The report shows that AMD's Ryzen AM5 CPUs now retain a 55.3% share of all CPUs sold in the month of October (2023) compared to AM4 CPUs which have a share of 44.7%. It's still superb for AM4 to be this strong despite being an older platform and it is also due to the fact that the older Ryzen 5000/4000/3000 CPUs & APUs offer tremendous value. Plus the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has been a crowd-pleaser in the DIY segment which had pushed AM4 sales to new heights earlier in the year.
But now, there are X3D options available in the Ryzen 7000 (AM5) family too and the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the 2nd best seller in the AM5 segment. Meanwhile, the most popular chip of the AM5 family is the Ryzen 5 7500F which is an iGPU-less & 6-core chip launching recently in the global DIY markets for $179 US. The Ryzen 5 7600 also takes up 3rd spot with a good chunk of share and it is very clear that gamers and budget builders are now finally looking at AM5 options instead of going the AM4 route.
On the Intel front, the Core i5-13400F remains the top choice which is clear since it is priced below the $200 US range and makes it a perfect choice for budget PC builders and gamers. The chip can also be equipped on older 600-series or the newer 700-series motherboards.
Intel recently refreshed its desktop lineup with 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs but those are merely a clock speed bump with config upgrades on certain SKUs. The CPUs are priced the same as the 13th Gen parts and we are expecting 13th Gen CPUs to drop in price while LGA 1700 motherboards are also going to see discounts in the coming holiday season. The Non-K 14th Gen CPUs arrive in early 2024 so it will be interesting to see how the market responds to their arrival but for now, AMD is back on the throne in the Korean DIY market.
