First AMD Ryzen AI 300 "Strix" APU-powered Mini PCs are expected to roll out in October at the earliest as stated by AOOSTAR.

AMD's Ryzen AI 300 "Strix" APU entered the market a few weeks back and showcased its strong CPU, GPU, and NPU capabilities to the world. As global availability becomes more stable for the first laptops, the next wave of platforms to benefit from these next-gen chips is going to be Mini PCs.

According to Mini PC manufacturer, AOOSTAR, it looks like we can expect the first devices on the shelves as early as October if things go smoothly. The manufacturer states that they already have the motherboard for their next-gen Mini PCs ready but they haven't yet received a CPU for testing. The vendor also states that the Mini PCs will support both SODIMM and soldered DDR5 memory. For soldered memory, we are going to see LPDDR5 and for SODIMM, we are going to see the standard DDR5 DIMMs.

AOOSTAR further states that its GEM13 Mini PC will be a very disruptive product. Based on what we know, the AMD Ryzen AI 300 "Strix" APUs feature up to 12 "Zen 5" CPU cores, up to 16 "RDNA 3.5" GPU cores, and a very strong "XDNA 2" NPU which can output up to 55 AI TOPs.

We have seen some gaming performance benchmarks of the chip at conservative 17W levels beating a 28W+ Meteor Lake CPU and an unshackled chip outperforming the NVIDIA GTX 1650. With proper cooling and the extra power offered by Mini PCs, we can expect the chip to be a beast and a massive upgrade over the Ryzen 7040/8040 series which largely dominates the Mini PC segment.

For graphics, we can expect performance close to the GTX 1650 Ti which would be great for a compact Mini PC solution. AMD's Ryzen AI 300 "Strix" APUs will also find a home in certain high-end gaming handhelds but the vast majority of devices are likely going to use Krackan Point which should offer more value and be a more power/cost-optimized offering. Expect more news on Strix Mini PCs in the coming months.
