AMD Readies Ryzen AI PRO 300 “Strix Point” APUs: 12-Core Ryzen AI 9 HX & Ryzen AI 7 SKUs Spotted

AMD is working on "PRO" variants of its Strix Point APUs under the Ryzen AI 9 HX and Ryzen AI 7 series featuring up to 12 cores.

At Computex 2024, AMD revealed its next-gen lineup of APUs under the "Strix Point" or "Ryzen AI 300" series branding, which are seen as some of the most revolutionary processor designs for the mobile segment, catering to the massive hype of AI PCs. While we have a dedicated post on the SKUs up, for a quick recap, the new Strix Point APUs feature the latest Zen 5 architecture along with RDNA 3 refresh which the company calls RDNA 3.5. It came with the revamped XDNA 2 AI engine as well which offers the highest TOPS of all NPUs released or coming out this year with 50 dedicated AI compute capabilities.

Team Red did keep details about models within the series undercover. However, it looks like the PRO SKUs have now been spotted. Shipping manifests by AMD reveal that the firm plans to introduce new "Ryzen PRO" models within the Strix Point series, called the Ryzen 9 PRO AI HX and Ryzen 7 PRO AI. These PRO variants are targeted towards providing a superior option to consumers relative to base models, with bumped-up capabilities, specifically AI compute power.

This means that up till now, we are aware of four models under the Strix Point series, with the previous two being the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 which have already been introduced and will be featured in several new laptop designs coming out in July.

It looks like AMD Ryzen 7 counterparts are under development as well, along with the presence of higher-end "PRO" models, so we can expect the Strix Point lineup to be the most decorated of them all. In terms of specifications, the Ryzen 7 PRO AI comes with a 12-core count, and nothing else has been revealed for now. It is quite surprising that even Ryzen 7 PRO parts are listed with 12 cores since the standard Ryzen AI 300 variant packs 10 cores while the top-end Ryzen Ryzen AI 9 HX SKUs ship with 12 cores.

We didn't see the presence of Ryzen PRO variants under the Strix Point lineup back at Computex, so it may be that Team Red is preparing to launch them somewhat sooner, given that they have surfaced on shipping manifests.
