AMD Radeon RX 8000 “RDNA 4” Graphics Card With Flagship Navi 48 XTX GPU Spotted

AMD's next-generation flagship graphics card within the Radeon RX 8000 "RDNA 4" family has been spotted using the Navi 48 XTX GPU.

While rumors state that AMD won't launch any Radeon RX 8000 graphics card this year under its "RDNA 4" lineup, it looks like the company has already started shipping early reference boards & the respective GPU samples to its engineering labs. This can be confirmed in the latest shipping log from nbd.ltd where the GPU has been spotted with several new PCBs.

The information confirms an AMD Radeon RX 8000 desktop graphics card featuring the Navi 48 XTX GPU. This GPU is mentioned as the "REVB-PRE" which refers to a reference evaluation board using the A0 silicon. Samsung is also mentioned along with the production date of this graphics card, which may be based on a process node technology from Samsung or using Samsung GDDR6 memory (the former is more likely). The graphics card was produced in Q2 2024 so it's a very recent board.

Besides the graphics card, the mention of the AMD Navi 48 XTX GPU confirms that this is a high-end SKU making use of the flagship RDNA 4 graphics die. The Navi 48 is the highest-end of the two RDNA 4 GPU dies that have so far been confirmed with the other one being the Navi 44. The Navi 48 GPUs are already listed under the "GFX1201" family while the Navi 44 GPUs are listed under the "GFX1200" family.

The PCB being used by the AMD Navi 48 XTX "Navi 48" GPU is specifically mentioned as the 102-G28201. Based on what we know so far about the AMD Navi 48 GPU for the Radeon RX 8000 graphics card lineup, the chip will feature a brand new architecture with an entirely new ray-tracing engine that's vastly different than the RDNA 3 GPUs. This new RT engine is crucial for AMD as it will power next-generation Sony and Microsoft consoles using the same RT block and should bring in a big boost in RT performance, something that the existing RDNA cards have been lacking when we compare them to NVIDIA's lineup and even Intel's own Arc GPUs.

As for performance, the AMD Navi 48 XTX "RDNA 4" GPUs are expected to offer performance similar to the existing Navi 31 SKUs (XL/XT) while offering better power efficiency. These GPUs are also going to be priced much lower than the top RDNA 3 GPUs so you can expect Navi 31 "Radeon RX 7900" series performance at around $500 US or less.

As for memory, AMD recently stated in a Micron press release that they look forward to leveraging GDDR7 to make gaming "responsive and lifelike" so that might be our hint at what the next-generation memory standard for the RDNA 4 GPU family would be. Other reports have suggested the use of 18 Gbps GDDR7 memory across all RX 8000 models. AMD didn't reveal much about its Radeon RX "Gaming" side of things at its Computex keynote but we can expect some unveils later this year as we get closer to launch.
