AMD Signs Up Deal With Indian Telecommunication Companies To Power Servers & Compute 1

AMD has started working with major Indian Telecom firms to power telecommunication networks, servers and compute within the country.

A Report from the Indian outlet, Economic Times, reveals that AMD will partner with several 4G & 5G equipment providers in India such as VVDN and C-Dot, offering its networking prowess which is mainly driven by Xilinx IPs.

We are bringing leading edge, power efficient technologies to India to power radios, servers, and compute requirements at data centers and the edge, and even in the RAN (radio access network),"

AMD currently employs around 10,000 individuals across its Indian offices and workplaces who are working in various sectors and has already announced an investment of $400 Million within the country to further strengthen its presence on Indian soil. Although India has moved to a strict "Made-In-India" policy, restricting PC manufacturers from imports and focusing more on local production, AMD seems to think that it will have an advantage here.

Since the chipmaker doesn't manufacture its own chips & uses other fabs, mainly TSMC, which produces the chips for them, AMD can focus on developing an ecosystem that helps Indian companies use local manufacturing.

Because we are fabless, it is helping us in one form or the other because then we can work with ethe ecosystem and have them use local manufacturing. But since we do not have manufacturing, we are not involved in the Made in India manufacturing aspect of things.

The implementation and use of these new networking and AI capabilities from AMD will definitely mark a major update in the path towards widening the 5G accessibility and setting the base for future 6G networks. The chip manufacturer is also stated to have showcased servers using its EPYC line of chips, more specifically, the newest Siena EPYC 8004 lineup which is optimized for TelCo and TCO-optimized platforms.
