AMD's software division is planning to give a sneak peek at the latest FidelityFX technologies which will be part of the SDK moving forward.

AMD will be hosting several sessions during GDC 2023 but the one about the FidelityFX SDK is the one that's particularly interesting since the red team plans to provide a sneak peek at future tech. In the "The FidelityX SDK (Presented by AMD)" session, the company will be talking about existing and new technologies that will be available in the SDK along with a sneak peek of what's to come next.

The session will take place on the 23rd of March and the description is listed below:

Join AMD as we unveil the FidelityFX SDK, a consolidation of all the great FidelityFX technologies available on GPUOpen into a sleek, easy-to-use SDK, making beautiful pixels easier than ever to achieve.

In this session, FidelityFX SDK lead Jason Lacroix will walk you through the features and architecture of the SDK, discuss how to implement FidelityFX technology on top of your engine's own abstractions, and look at the effects released as part of the SDK. This session will also include an exciting sneak peek of new FidelityFX technologies that will be available soon.

We may already have a hint of what sneak peek AMD has planned for us. The company has its new FSR 3 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) technology expected to launch in the first half of 2023. Not only is FSR 3 but HYPR-RX, also coming to the FidelityFX software ecosystem but the second tech is more of a driver-level optimization rather than it being integrated within the API itself. With that said, the AMD FSR 3 technology is expected to deliver up to twice the performance of FSR 2.

During its RDNA 3 launch event, the company showcased a demo of FSR 3 in Unreal Engine 5 where the FPS jumped from 60 FPS (FSR 2) to 112 FPS (FSR 3). The company also recently released the FSR 2.2 plugin for the latest version of Unreal Engine.

As well as the benefits from the earlier versions of our FSR 2 UE plugins, our v2.2 plugin also:

  • Adds support for Unreal Engine 5.1.
  • Includes the general improvements from FSR 2.2 to tackle ghosting.
  • Gives improved handling of ghosting for objects with World Position Offsets – more objects with WPO should render velocity by default. This improves the appearance of animated foliage – but depends on developer settings. Slightly different process to improve ghosting on animated materials.

  • Currently, there's no word on the modes and how Fluid Motion Frame technology would work but the company is expected to reveal more at GDC.
