Affordable AMD Dragon Range Laptops Hit Retail In China: 16-Core Starting At $1150 US, 12-Core For $1050 US

AMD's Dragon Range laptops featuring high-end Ryzen CPUs have been out for a while but we haven't seen a lot of affordable options. The vast majority of laptops available at US, UK, & EU retailers have been priced above $1500 US which does make them a far better value than Intel options but things can certainly improve.
Available since March 2023, the AMD Dragon Range laptops have been available with prices that range from $1500 US and beyond $5000 US, depending on the configuration. One major issue that has plagued the lineup since launch has been the availability and there are not a lot of options that users can select from at the moment.
This is going to change soon as laptop manufacturers are planning to launch more affordable SKUs in the coming months. We first have the Chinese laptop manufacturer, Mechrevo, who has listed its first AMD Dragon Range laptops with a mix of Ryzen 9 7945HX 16-Core & Ryzen 9 7845HX 12-Core options. The laptops come equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, feature 32 GB memory, and offer a 2.5K Panel with a 240Hz refresh rate. There's also 1 TB of NVMe Gen 4.0 x4 storage and a 280W SiC battery.
The best part about these Mechrevo laptops is their price. Both 16-Inch variants start at close to $1000 US or 7499 RMB. The prices for each configuration are listed below:
These are vastly better and far more affordable prices than what the US, UK, and EU folks have for AMD Ryzen 7045 "Dragon Range" laptops. You can see below that the cheapest AMD Dragon Range is listed for $1769.99 US and it isn't even available:
In addition to the Mechrevo laptops, ASUS has also launched its own Tianxuan "The One" 4 laptop which houses the AMD Ryzen 9 7940H Phoenix APU coupled with an RTX 4060, 16 GB DDR5 & 512 GB storage. The laptop starts at 7799 RMB and you can even find the RTX 4050 variant for a cheap 7699 RMB pricing. That's around $1100 which is a fantastic price when you consider the fact that this chip is about on par with some high-end desktop-class CPUs and also features a very capable GPU.
The Mechrevo AMD Dragon Range laptops with high-end Ryzen 7045 CPUs are available for pre-order and will be available starting the 1st of May. The ASUS Tianxuan "The One" laptops are also available for pre-order and will be available starting the 4th of May. I would still love to see some options, especially the Phoenix laptops, which come without discrete GPU options.
We have seen the Radeon 780M iGPU with RDNA 3 architecture to be very capable on its own and most users are going to see it suit their all-day gaming needs than have a discrete GPU which sips more power and makes the laptop run hotter too. In addition to laptops, AMD partners will also be launching the first Ryzen Phoenix Mini PCs next month.
